Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description

On a maroon cross shaped silver metal and epoxied device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height a cross trefoil quartered and counterchanged, white and red, surmounted by a gold caduceus. Attached to the bottoms of the arms of the cross is a silver scroll inscribed STRENGTH IN EXCELLENCE in maroon.



Symbolism

The color maroon is traditionally associated with Dental Health Activities and the cross is a symbol of healthcare. Silver denotes strength while also represents the instruments used by dentists in providing dental services to Soldiers. The quartered crosslet is from the Maryland State flag and represents the location of the unit. The caduceus is a symbol of U.S. Army medical units and is colored gold, signifying excellence in health care.
